Bold Coffee Underneath a Traditional Exterior

The Keurig brand has been a heavy-hitter in the single-serving coffee market for quite some time now, being one of the original entrants along with Senseo and a few other big names. Their K-Cup system, a common fixture in many a kitchen, has spawned literally hundreds of third party companies that are all struggling to make a mark on the coffee drinking world. One of these companies in particular, "Coffee People," has been consistently impressive in their quality of output. In this review, I'll be taking a look at "Donut Shop," their latest entry into the market.

On a very obvious level, the first sip I took of this coffee instantly reminded me of the classic dollar cup of coffee that you might find at any respectable diner in the US (especially in the midwest where the diner is king). A bold but unpretentious taste is the name of the game, at least at first!

An In-Depth Look at the Flavor

When I took a more detailed test, thinking about the first taste, the body, and finish of the coffee, I noticed quite a bit more detail hidden behind the diner coffee appeal. This coffee has a very bold beginning as I mentioned before, but the body and aftertaste almost give off a "syrup" flavor that mixes incredibly well with the rest of the tastes. On repeated drinking, the taste holds up quite well without becoming too sweet or rich. After all, you're drinking a cup of coffee and not a cocoa or hot chocolate here, so some subtlety has to enter the equation.

If I had to say one negative thing about the product, it's that the syrupy taste might be a bit overwhelming for people seeking a more straightforward cup of joe. That being said, I think the Donut Shop coffee pod product is one to raise the bar in the world of single-serving coffee.

Conclusion

I'm honestly very surprised at how much quality the Coffee People have packed into this product. Despite its sometimes overwhelming body and aftertaste flavor, you can't really go wrong with trying this one out for yourself and seeing what all the craze is about. Taking even a brief peek at Amazon's review section for this product, it's readily apparent that I'm not the only fan of this product. Based on this experience, I'll definitely be seeking out some of Coffee People's other offerings.
